The origin of the name of the Devpeturov icon of the Mother of God is not exactly known. One of the lists of this image is related to the history of the Tambov Region. It is called the” blessing ” of St. Pitirim, Bishop of Tambov. This image was among the domestic icons of the saint. Pitirim prayed before him to God and the Most Holy Theotokos. The icon became particularly famous in 1833. One woman, whose husband was wrongly accused and imprisoned, prayed and grieved. In a dream, she had a revelation to find the cell icon of St. Pitirim and hold a prayer service in front of it. As a result of prayers to the icon of the Virgin, a miracle occurred, and the husband was soon acquitted. Currently, this icon is located in the altar of the Holy Transfiguration Cathedral in Tambov. In 2005, the Devpeturov icon of the Mother of God was consecrated in the house church of the Tambov city prison.
