Iveron Icon of the Mother of God |
It is considered the Icon's memorial Day. It is located in the Iveron Monastery (above the gate) on Mount Athos, which is why it got its name. It was destroyed under the Emperor Theophilus. For the purpose of rescue, she was lowered into the sea near the city of Nicaea and soon sailed to Mount Athos, where she remained. |
