Great Martyr Demetrius of Thessalonica
Saint Demetrius Memorial Day is a native of the city of Thessaloniki (Greece). After the death of his father, he was appointed proconsul by the Emperor Maximian Galerius, ruler of the region of Thessalonica. He was imprisoned by order of the emperor for disobedience (extirpating pagan customs instead of exterminating Christians)and killed with a spear in 306.
It is dedicated to Saint Luppus, a disciple of Demetrius of Thessalonica. He voluntarily surrendered to the persecutors of the Christians and was beheaded by the sword on the orders of the Emperor Maximian Galerius.
