The Sokolsky icon of the Most Holy Theotokos, which appeared in the world thanks to a miraculous phenomenon in the distant 1172 year, is now a holy treasure of the Sokolsky Transfiguration Monastery. The location of this sacred place is on the top of Dukhovaya Gora, on the banks of the picturesque Vorskla River. The monastery is located three versts from the small settlement of Sokolki, located in the Kobelyaksky district of the Poltava province. The history of the Sokolsky Transfiguration Monastery dates back over three centuries. Its founder was the abbot of the Poltava Holy Cross Monastery, who established this place of worship in 1714. However, in 1731, this monastery and its priceless treasure, the Sokolsky Icon of the Mother of God, survived harsh times when the Crimean Tatars launched a devastating attack on this holy place. These historical events brought permanent damage to the icon itself, which is still noticeable to this day. The Sokolsky icon of the Most Holy Theotokos, which has repeatedly shown its miraculous power, depicts a great event — the Nativity of the Most Holy Virgin Mary. Immutably carrying its spiritual message through the centuries, it has become an object of deep reverence and worship for the faithful, and its history remains a living testimony of faith and grace.
